Electron beam melting system

Our electron beam melting system is an opensource, versatile, and portable additive manufacturing experimental setup ideal for conducting fundamental research or small builds under tunable building conditions.
Designed with a widely exposed building environment and multiple electrical feedthroughs, it is easy to implement as many metrology systems or close-loop feedback systems as the user desires. With a maximum power of 600W, a building area of 16mm x 16mm, a maximum scanning speed of 16 m/s, and a focused beam size of 200 micrometers, our machine is capable of handling a wide range of materials and geometries. In addition, the shape and size of the beam are tunable, providing the user with a novel and unexplored e-beam melting condition. The compact structure combined with a large powerful purging system produce a clean and stable inert environment ideal for repeatable and controllable building conditions.
Our system has been previously used by researchers at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, to study the Electron Beam Melting additive manufacturing process throughout x-ray imaging at Argonne National Laboratories in IL, US. The simultaneous implementation of an optimal camera, IR camera, and posterior x-ray diffraction imaging, proved the versatility of our system to different needs.
